INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ‘DELTAS IN TIMES OF CLIMATE CHANGE’
Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 29 September – 1 October 2010
The two official Dutch research programmes on climate change and spatial planning (Climate changes Spatial Planning and Knowledge for Climate), the City of Rotterdam and the C40 (a group of the world’s largest cities committed to tackling climate change) invite scientists, politicians, policy-makers and practitioners to share their knowledge and experience in a major international conference on climate adaptation. The conference pursues three main goals: 1. exchanging up-to-date top science on climate change and delta planning 2. strengthening international cooperation between deltas and delta cities 3. exploring and strengthening the links between science, policy and practitioners. ISA CALLS FOR PROPOSALS FOR LITERATURE REVIEW ON BIOMECHANICS IN ARBORICULTURE
The International Society of Arboriculture regularly commissions literature reviews on actual topics within arboriculture. Presently ISA is looking for bids for a review on tree biomechanics. Click Here for more information. Proposals should be received by 15 March 2010.
TWO PHD GRANTS AT THE EUROPEAN FOREST INSTITUTE
The Foundation for European Forest Research is offering two PhD scholarships up to 19,000 EUR per year with a travel allowance of 1000 EUR per year. The opportunities are open to all interested persons qualified to proceed with PhD studies at an internationally recognised university. The grants are ‘Metsähallitus-Grant 2010 for PhD studies’ on the topic of ‘Sustainable use of forests for different purposes, including economical and recreational forest functions and biodiversity values’, and ‘Ponsse-Grant 2010 for PhD Studies’ on the topic of ‘Contribution of modern forest management technologies to sustainable and competitive forestry in Europe’.

EDUCATION

MASTER-LEVEL COURSE ON URBAN FORESTRY AND URBAN GREENING
Copenhagen, Denmark, 6 September – 5 November 2010
During autumn 2010, a 15 ECTS Master course on urban forestry and urban greening will once again be held at the University of Copenhagen. This course can be combined into an ‘urban forestry package’ of 30 ECTS and is also part of a new Nordic Master in Landscape Planning.
